OpenHC Project

Welcome to Crow's OpenHC website - a utility for playing games over the Internet for those days when there's just nobody around in person.

Disclaimers:
1) This program is freeware. I did not write it & cannot edit it. It does not contain any images of copyrighted characters.
2) The program does not enforce the rules of play (that is left to the players).
3) INDOMITABLE and SHARPSHOOTER symbols, as well as TRAITS, do not display - these abilities are indicated in CAPS along with Keywords for now.

INSTALLATION
For PC:

1) Have the latest version of Java (for PC: http://java.com/en/download/manual.jsp)
2) If it is your first time, download the complete package below and unzip it to a main program folder (named something like OpenHC). The subfolders created will include: maps, sets, images, and save.
3) Return to this site regularly to check for updates to the "sets" folder as new figures are uploaded - note that when you install the "sets" download it will overwrite the old "sets" folder, so save any of your personal custom sets you may have made somewhere safe!

NOTE: If you end up with a sets folder inside another sets folder (or likewise for maps folder) the program will not work - this is because you've unzipped to the wrong place. Unzip to the main folder, it will do the rest.

For Mac: (written by ibeatdrew):
After you download/unzip the program file, instead of double clicking the .exe file, you want to double click the .jar file to run the program. If you have trouble, make sure your JAVA is up to date. You can do this from the system preferences application by clicking on "update".

April 2012 update: Complete program all data up to the Avengers Movie stuff!
or, to update your existing OHC program with the new sets (smaller download): extract this zip file and replace your old sets folder with this one.

Optional Extras
July 27th 2011 - Independent's Day HCRealms community-made set. Unzip into your /sets folder. NOTE: incompatible sets.txt file with the latest sets - you'd have to edit it manually.
Dec 7th 2009 - Random team generator
Instructions: 1) Unzip to any folder (not a part of OpenHC)
        2) Edit the inventory.txt file to contain your figures in the format shown (point value, name & rank)
        3) Open HCRandomizer.exe, enter a point value, and click GENERATE button! It will suggest a random team within 2 points of the target.
Note: This program suggests Feats and other cards as if they were figures, but it does NOT check prerequisites or make other Feat decisions.
Feats/BFCs/Events and such are all at the end of the Inventory.txt file; simply remove them as desired.

HOW TO FIND SOMEONE TO PLAY WITH:
You can arrange games on your own over any chat service, but if you are looking to find the most active group of players, I strongly recommend Hamachi.

For PC users: www.hamachi.cc
For Mac users: http://apfeltaste.net/hamachix/ (This version does not have built in Chat. You can follow the Hamachi instructions for the PC to get HamachiX working on your Mac.)

An additional program you may want to have installed would be some sort of Voice Chat software to talk to the other players. It is easier than typing things in game. Suggested software: Skype.

Go to the end of the following forum thread to find the latest Hamachi rooms with people looking for games of OpenHC: http://www.hcrealms.com/forum/showthread.php?t=219380

CURRENTLY OPEN: HCOL1,HCOL2,...HCOL7 are all available with spots for new players. The password for all of them is: 12345

HOW TO CONNECT TO A GAME:

Either you or your opponent will "Host Game". The host must give their IP to the other player(s). If you don't know your own IP, you can go to the What Is My IP website and it will tell you.
If you STILL can't connect to somebody's IP (because of a firewall or some other blockage), I recommend downloading Hamachi (see above) since it is a virtual-IP program that lets you join or set up rooms through a virtual network (IP's from here start with the number "5").
